EnergyFlex, an award-winning energy data, insights, and wellness company, has unveiled an employee benefits program that incentivises energy savings and sustainable living.
Research shows that environmental sustainability is a high priority for Australian jobseekers – ranking among the top five considerations alongside salary and benefits – with 74% of Aussies (and 81% of Gen Z) wanting employers to prioritise sustainability. Furthermore, WeMoney research found that 43% of Australians live paycheque to paycheque, highlighting the need for cost-of-living assistance in the face of growing inflation and potential interest rate increases.
The EnergyFlex Employee Benefits program combines financial incentives with environmental awareness to create a more fulfilling, engaging, and impactful employee value proposition (EVP), while also accelerating Australia’s journey to net zero emissions.
Unique incentives for energy-conscious employees
The program centres on the unique EnergyFlex Rating, which is a personalised measure of how well a household or business uses renewable energy. Users can improve their EnergyFlex Rating by shifting their energy use to align with periods when renewable energy is abundant.
EnergyFlex offers its employees three unique incentives to improve their rating:
- Energy bills paid: Employees who achieve and maintain an EnergyFlex Rating of 3.0 will have their energy bills re-imbursed by the company.
- Extra week of leave: Employees who reach an EnergyFlex Rating of 3.5 are rewarded with an additional week of paid leave.
- Novated leasing for EVs: All employees can take advantage of novated leasing options for electric vehicles, further reducing their carbon footprint and tax contributions as they embrace a green lifestyle.
These incentives complement EnergyFlex’s existing employee benefits, which include a 35-hour workweek, hybrid and flexible working arrangements, and access to a comprehensive employee assistance program.
Mo Hughes, senior software engineer at EnergyFlex who had his quarterly bill of $271 reimbursed by the company, said: “The benefit gave us extra incentive to get serious about our rating. It only took a few weeks to change our energy habits, and it became much easier to maintain an EnergyFlex Rating of 3 when we bought our EV and spread out the charging. I think it’s great that EnergyFlex is walking the walk; it shows integrity. And we’re happy to have a bit more cash in our travel fund!”
Build your own EnergyFlex-powered Employee Value Proposition
The EnergyFlex Employee Benefits program can be implemented in any business with the same or custom benefits by partnering with EnergyFlex and offering the free app to their employees.
In demonstrating their commitment to sustainability and their employees’ financial and energy wellness, companies can attract and retain top talent and boost existing ESG initiatives. EnergyFlex also empowers companies to reduce their energy bills and embed sustainability into their operations, with accurate, site-specific insights into their Scope 2 carbon emissions as well as the Scope 3 emissions produced by their workforce.
The EnergyFlex Employee Benefits program is a low-risk, low-cost company-led approach that has the potential to deliver thousands of dollars in savings each year to workforces, and a significant and measurable benefit for the environment.
“EnergyFlex encourages employees to align with the company’s values, and this alignment reinforces my confidence in being part of an organisation that values and supports its employees according to its core principles,” says Wendy Nguyen, CDR Compliance and Implementation Manager at EnergyFlex. “By recognising and rewarding employees for their efforts, it fosters a positive work environment that enhances job satisfaction and morale.”
“We want our employees—and everyone in Australia—to feel good about contributing to a sustainable future and feeling like their behaviours positively impact the world. The beauty of the EnergyFlex Rating is that companies can decide how to reward employees who take action to improve their energy wellness,” says Harding. “For the EnergyFlex team, it’s cost-of-living relief and extra time off for their personal wellbeing. We believe this is how you balance people, planet, and profit.”
