BRISBANE – July 1, 2024 – Garry Harding, CEO of energy data and insights company, EnergyFlex, will be a featured speaker at the upcoming Fintech Australia CDR Summit, sharing how the company is revolutionising consumer energy management through the Consumer Data Right (CDR).

The summit, themed “Exploring the limitless potential of the Consumer Data Right together,” will delve into the future of CDR and its transformative impact on various industries.

The event will feature local and international experts, policymakers, and founders, including keynote speaker Dr Scott Farrell, the architect of the federal CDR policy, and Rehan D’Almeida, CEO of FinTech Australia.

The event comes off the back of the release of FinTech Australia’s Fourth Australia and New Zealand Ecosystem Map and Report, which tracks the evolution of Open Banking in the country and visually maps its participants and use cases. EnergyFlex has been included in this year’s report, in the Climate Change use case category.

EnergyFlex brings bank-level security to Open Energy data with Adatree partnership

EnergyFlex recently became one of the first non-energy retailers to achieve representative access under CDR legislation, a milestone that enables the company to provide Australians with unparalleled insights into their energy consumption and costs.

EnergyFlex’s strategic partnership with Adatree, a leading data intermediary, ensures the highest level of security and privacy for consumer data. By meeting stringent government-mandated compliance requirements, EnergyFlex brings bank-level security to the open energy sector.

Educating and empowering consumers and businesses in the renewable energy transition

Harding will join Jennifer Harrison, Director – Startups & Scaleups at Reputation Edge, and Jason Leong, Co-Founder and CEO of PocketSmith, for a Fireside Chat titled: “CDR Journey of an Entrepreneur — Fireside Chat with Founders in Open Banking and Open Energy,” where he will provide insights into EnergyFlex’s successful implementation of CDR in the energy sector.

He will address the broader implications of CDR for the energy sector, emphasising the potential for CDR to drive innovation and competition in the market and the real-world impact of Open Energy data on consumer choice and cost savings.

“We’re at a pivotal moment in the energy transition, says Harding. “The transition to renewables requires consumers to actively engage with their energy data. CDR enables them to leverage their own data to make better decisions about their energy use, driving down costs and emissions.”

By securely accessing CDR smart meter data, EnergyFlex provides site-specific insights, reportable data, and actionable strategies through its free app. Users gain a clear understanding of their energy consumption patterns and peak usage times and receive tailored recommendations to reduce bills and carbon emissions.

The Fintech CDR Australia Summit agenda also includes:

  • Opening keynote by Dr Scott Farrell on Levelling up the CDR,
  • Keynote by Dan Jovevski, Founder and CEO of WeMoney, on Open Banking’s role in navigating the cost-of-living crisis,
  • Keynote by Damir Ćuća, CEO and Founder of Basiq, on the reality of who’s actually using Open Banking,
  • Breakout sessions and panel discussions on the current state and future of CDR, bill management with CDR, data access and opportunities, screenscraping vs CDR, and data quality, and
  • Roundtable discussions on new sectors and opportunities and unlocking the CDR future for business customers.

“The CDR has reached the threshold of industry adoption that will precede mass consumer adoption,” says D’Almeida. “It’s entering a crucial phase where consumer adoption and education will be as crucial as considered policy settings. Intermediary usage has also grown, demonstrating the important role specialist third parties like EnergyFlex provide in driving ecosystem effectiveness. We’re seeing greater diversity in participants, with new industries like climate and sustainability, health, philanthropy, and hospitality now making use of CDR data. I look forward to discussing emerging use cases and commercial opportunities at the CDR Summit.”
